Fashion DIY Tutorial: Make a poncho from an Ikea bedspread in a few steps

Advert

The other day I was back at Ikea and, although I only accompanied my friend to the furniture store, I bought a lot of stuff. And fortunately, I have become weak.

Otherwise I would have left the super soft knit bedspread “Gilda Strale” (which was cut-rat from EUR 14.99 to EUR 7.99) in its miserable existence as bedspreads and it never would have become a beautiful poncho, which even got confused with a part from Missoni.

DIY Step 1

Fold the small side of the bedspread (from 130 to 65 cm) and fix it with pins.

DIY Step 2

Sew each side from the edge to a length of about 42 centimeters and leave the rest (the center) open. Take care to sew close to the border. So the seam will look almost invisible.

DIY Step 3

Put on your poncho in front of the mirror and determine the most appropriate place for the closure. Temporarily fix the closure with pins.

Sew the closure to the poncho. DONE!

PS And for those who prefer to sew a cape instead of a poncho, I recommend this DIY tutorial from last year.

I agree. I am a little confused about what you are supossed to sew to 42 CM. The idea is so cute but instructions aren’t clear enough that I can or would attempt to make this :(
