DIY Fashion: Wrap Belt From Old Jeans - Fashion Blog: DIY - Outfits, Shoes & Accessories
With Yvonne I’ve talked a few weeks ago about a self-made jeans belt. However, since denim is relatively inflexible and rigid, the challenge there was to find an alternative solution for closing the belt with something else than a belt buckle.
The “belt buckles problem” was solved, as I completely abandoned a clasp by imitating a wrap belt from my shop. This version got very colorful in a hippie style (big surprise?), but instead of the colorful fabric you can also take black leather or lace. Depending on personal taste and imagination you can spice up your belt with studs, sequins or buttons.
Material And Tools – For This DIY Project You Need
1. 2 pieces 85 x 8 cm (33.5 x 3.1 inch) wide strips of fabric, double folded and stitched (the two wrap parts)
2. 2 pieces 74 x 4 cm (29.1 x 1.5 inch) wide strips of fabric, folded in half and ironed (for the border of the jeans part)
3. marker or tailor’s chalk
4. a piece of denim (for example, a pant leg)
8. sewing kit, even better, sewing machine (not in the picture)
DIY Tutorial: The Step-By-Step Craft Instructions
DIY Step 1
On the inside of the jeans part mark a 70 x 12 cm (27.5 x 4.7 inch) wide part and draw the same shape as in the picture on both ends of it. Thus, each end tapers to about 4 cm (1.5 inch).
DIY Step 2
DIY Step 3
Fix the border strip with pins on the jeans part.
DIY Step 4
Now temporarily stuck the wrap parts on the belt as well.
DIY Step 5
Sew all the parts together. I stitched the ends with a straight seam, and (to emphasize the “gypsy look”) in the middle I used various decorative stitches and thread colors. DONE!
