Fashion DIY Tutorial: SATC2 Jeans From Carrie Bradshaw Homemade - Fashion Blog: DIY - Outfits, Shoes & Accessories
I love “Sex and the City” and have bought all seasons on DVD, but unfortunately I was disappointed with the two SATC movies in the cinema. One of the few bright spots from the SATC 2 – movie were the Jeans from Closed, which Carrie Bradshaw was wearing at the karaoke night with the girls in Abu Dhabi. After I’ve seen the movie it was clear to me, I definitely have to copy these jeans.
A week after I have seen the SATC2 – movie, my jeans got bleached already, but for the complete makeover I needed “a little bit” more time – two and a half years, to be exact;).
Material And Tools – For This DIY Project You Need
- Jeans (if you want to bleach them, they should contain no or only a minimal percentage of elastane)
- Sequin fabric
- Studs in different sizes and a small spoon so you can easily bend the rivets
- Jeans- and leather-fabric and possibly felt (as an underlay)
- Seam ripper
- Sewing machine
DIY Tutorial: The Step-By-Step Craft Instructions
DIY Step 1 Attach The Studs
Attach some big studs on leather pieces and cut these with about 0.4 in (1 cm) addition. Place smaller studs in two rows and a little narrower than the width of the pant leg on artificial leather or felt. As with Carrie’s jeans I left the leatherette fabric generously wide around the rivets (have a look at the final result). As the rivet applications (with smaller rivets) are sewn on the jeans later, please be aware to leave enough seam allowance available.
DIY Step 2 Prepare the Sequin Fabric
Glue (or sew) the sequin fabric on a piece of denim fabric. My sequin fabric is actually a metal sequin cloth (you can see it here ) that I wore very seldom and therefore misused it for this DIY project. Here, too, please think of the seam allowance.
DIY Step 3 Unstitch the Pant Legs
Thus the applications and rivets can be more easily mounted on the jeans I unstitched each of the pant legs at one side.
TIP: The pant leg must not be unstitched completely. It is enough if you start about 4 in (10 cm) above the hem.
DIY Step 4 Adorn with Stud/Artificial Leather Applications
Adorn the Jeans with stud/artificial leather applications.
DIY Step 5 Fix and Sew the Sequin and Stud Applications
Place the sequin and stud applications with pins on the inside of the jeans (applications turned up, the jeans on the left!) and sew them on.
DIY Step 6 Cutting out
Now cut out the jeans to uncover the applications.
TIP: Better cut out the jeans a little bit smaller than the applications underneath. After washing, the jeans will fray a little bit, which then makes a really great look.
DIY Schritt 7 Sewing Up of the Pant Legs
Now the pant legs are sewn up again. DONE!
